Hubert Luke and A. Bernard Franklin, in commending the next in Sentinel's collections of favourite Methodist hymns under the general title \"Born in Song\". This phrase, taken from the opening sentence of the Preface to the 1933 Methodist Hymn Book, sums up the great characteristic of the Evangelical Revival of the 18th century, whose prime movers were the Wesley brothers. Faith was put into poetry, poetry was put to tune, and word and music combined to express faith, sustain faith, and awaken faith in such a way that men and women were `born again'. Therefore Methodists do not just speak about their faith, they sing it. They do not just discuss their faith, they chorus it. Nowhere do they do this more than in Cornwall where Celtic emotion, stirred by the Wesleys two centuries ago and by their evangelical successors since, has maintained a deep love for the hymns of Methodism. Here then is another selection of Cornish favourites. In the old days they were sung in the deep places of the mines, out under a fishing moon, around an old harmonium, and within the granite chapel. To-day the scene may have changed with new methods of presentation, T.V., radio, hi-fi, and modern accompaniment, amplified guitar, electronic organ. But the unchanging message of the old hymns stirs the heart still, and illuminates the mind. So, not only enjoy these hymns, but let them speak to you of the love of God, shown in Jesus the Lord—that love which brought Methodism to birth, and which brings new life to those who believe.\n\nTHE REV. IAN HAILE B.\nThe popularity of the first two albums in the Born in Song series, together with the continuing dempnd of your letters, ensured the release of this third volume. We have always enjoyed recording these albums, but this one was highlighted by the co-operation of the two great friends Edgar Kessell—legendary man of music in Cornwall and the talented young conductor he introduced some years ago, George Smith. Their magnificent choirs speak for themselves. To make the picture complete, we had the blessing of the Rev. Ian Haile, current Chairman of the Methodist Church, Cornwall district. The recordings, as for the first two records, were made in the fine Methodist Church of St. John's in St. Austell, and we take this opportunity to thank the Minister, trustees and staff, and in fact, all who helped with the production of Born in Song Vol. 3.\nSENTINEL RECORDS\n\nLocation: St. Johns Methodist Church, St. Austell.
